Working From BN Ain’t All It’s Cracked Up To Be

Some of you may know that I love Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, who has a blog and a cooking show by the same name. Ree lives in the middle of nowhere, OK, and helps her husband, kids and in-laws run a very big ranch.

She writes about her life day-to-day on the ranch, and sometimes just about really silly things, like her dog, Charlie, being dressed in different costumes for different holidays or about mama cows giving them the evil eye as they work the calves.

Ree is so real and so authentic, and she cracks me up. I love to hear her speak, because our accents are similar – who knew that Texans sounded like Okies?? Her husband, Marlboro Man, reminds me so much of my little bro, Jamie, in accent and demeanor.  And, we have a similar sense of humor.

Most of all, her writings reminds me of my childhood, growing up on Stix Road out in the country in the middle of nowhere (although my nowhere now seems almost civilized compared to her nowhere – at least we could get to town in 20 minutes, rather than the 20 minutes it takes her just to get off the ranch to reach a paved highway! <g>)

Because reading her blog is a bit of escapism for me every day, I thought some of you might be interested in my discoveries as I reinvent my business. So, rather than writing my usual marketing articles and cool tool reviews here, I’m going to take you on my business reignition journey.

I hope you all have as much fun reading about what I’m doing as I’m having doing it!

I decided to play hooky earlier this week and indulged my fantasy of working from Starbucks or BN.  However, we’re all out of both of those places in Orange, TX, so I had to drive to Beaumont about 30 minutes away to find both.

I discovered that working from BN ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.  It was noisy (although less so than Starbucks) and I missed my comfy desk chair and my comfy couch.

Sigh.  However, I did see a sight I never see in Orange — almost everyone was using a tablet of some sort — iPad, Nook, Kindle, Android tablet — to surf the Interweb, read, etc.   Guess I have to get out more!

And, I got to order a to-go order from Pei Wei from their tablet app — if only Pei Wei were closer to home! 🙂

I returned to the house, my fantasy fulfilled, and told Eric that we need to clear off the dining room table so I can work there if I get restless in the future.  It’s only 5 seconds from my office, and the view through our french doors into the backyard is pretty nice — much better than BN.
