Marketing Your Virtual Assistant Business via Article Writing

Q:  What topics could a virtual administrative assistant write about?


A:  Hi Linda!  When I started my VA biz back in 1999, I didn’t think that I knew enough about any topic to write any interesting articles aimed at my target market.  Boy, was I ever wrong!  What I assumed (and you KNOW what happens when you assume! <g>) is that everyone was educating themselves just like I was, eagerly reading all kinds of marketing material, as that was my specialty.

My V-8 moment came at a networking event when I asked the people in my circle to sign up for my email newsletter.  They all complied, but my surprise was in all the questions I got about email newsletters, like, “Oh, you know how to do that?”  “How do I start one?”  “What do I write about?”  Foolishly, I thought EVERYONE knew about ezines, and that was back in 2002 or so..LOL

I knew much more than I though I did.  So, my questions to you are:

  • what problems does your target market have?
  • what questions are you frequently asked by prospective clients?
  • what kinds of problems are you taking care of for your current clients?

The answers to these questions are the very topics on which you can write articles! I encourage my clients to write tips articles, i.e. 3 Secrets to…or 7 Proven Strategies to Help You..or 7 Biggest Mistakes…  Readers online generally like a number and a solution or a number and a problem.
