Trying on New Ideas

Sometimes I completely exhaust myself. I’m a voracious reader and have an uncanny knack for retaining most of what I read.  Consequently, I find it difficult many times to "turn off" the chatter in my head and pay attention to my task at hand.  Sometimes I’m so deep in thought that I go into a trance-like state, and it takes a couple of times for someone who’s speaking to me to get my attention.  And, or course, this happens at the most inopportune times — like when I’m driving or in the middle of a conversation about something else.

My resourcefulness and my ability to generalize idea applications from one situation to another have often been remarked upon and listed as strengths and as qualities of great value that I bring into business relationships.  My dilemma has always been how to capitalize on this ability and get paid for it.  Some of the funnest times for me are those in which I’m encouraged to brainstorm and generate ideas — time seems to pass by effortlessly when I’m in idea generation mode.

Michaelport I’m trying on a couple of ideas right now, some of which have been inspired by reading Michael Port’s new book, Book Yourself Solid.  You should check it out if you haven’t done so — the ideas are priceless!
